Global Greens Charter

Green parties around the world share common values that are expressed in the Global Greens Charter. The six main ideas, on which the Green Party of Quebec is based, are :

ECOLOGICAL WISDOM

  • Promoting ecological health
  • Not being responsible for extinction of species
  • Recognizing the wisdom of Aboriginal peoples
  • Recognizing the limits of natural resources
  • Preserving ecosystems and biodiversity
  • Adopting the precautionary principle

SOCIAL JUSTICE

  • Supporting the equitable distribution of resources
  • Guaranteeing the satisfaction of basic needs, such as water, food, roof
  • Affirming the right to development of all, by putting in place a stable and fair global economy
  • Bridging the gap between North and South
  • Eliminating poverty and illiteracy
  • Guaranteeing equal rights regardless of sex, race, age, religion, social class, ethnic or national origin, sexual orientation, disability, wealth and health.

PARTICIPATORY DEMOCRACY

  • Promoting bioregional democracy
  • Helping the individual to be autonomous, voluntary and participative
  • Supporting the right to vote of all adults by guaranteeing the right to political affiliation of one's choice within the framework of a multi-party system.

NONVIOLENCE

  • Promoting a culture of peace and cooperation
  • Putting in place a holistic approach to security, as well as a global system of conflict prevention, management and resolution
  • Eliminating the causes of war, such as racism or poverty
  • Promoting general disarmament, particularly in the area of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons, anti-personnel mines and depleted uranium weapons;

SUSTAINABILITY

  • Limiting overconsumption
  • Focusing on the quality of life
  • Enabling us to meet current needs without compromising the needs of future generations
  • By limiting population growth
  • By promoting local development
  • Taking into account the environmental price of a good or service in its overall price
  • By promoting the follow-up of sustainable development principles by industries

RESPECT FOR DIVERSITY

  • For the recognition and the respect of minorities
  • For the right of all to a living environment that promotes dignity, well-being and health
